About Vaishno Devi Katra

The state of Jammu & Kashmir is home to the religious city of Vaishno Devi Katra, located at the foot of the Trikuta hills. Its spiritual significance and stunning natural beauty have made it one of the most sacred Hindu pilgrimage sites.

Mata Vaishno Devi is believed to have appeared nearly 900 years ago in the form of a young girl, and to have spent a major part of her life in a cave at Bhavan located on the Trikuta hills.

After seeing her in an agricultural field, the famous Tantric Bhairav Nath fell in love with Mata Vaishno Devi and pursued her. To avoid him, Mata Vaishno Devi fled into the Trikuta hills and took the form of Chamundi, causing Bhairav Nath to be beheaded. His body was held at the entrance to the cave, and his head landed further up the mountain at a place where a Bhairav Nath temple is now located.

Many people visit the city to seek blessings from Mata Vaishno Devi and to pay their respects to Bhairav Nath. The Trikuta hills house several temples and shrines that are popular amongst devotees, and the city is also home to a number of interesting tourist attractions such as the Vaishno Devi Katra temple, the Raghunath temple, and many more. Vaishno Devi Katra is a major pilgrimage site for Hindus and is believed to be a holy place for many.
